I'm not sure that #healthcare actually needs unicorns. What it needs is really competent innovators in a vibrant ecosystem. Working together, the impact could far outstrip any of these consumer unicorns. If that happens, shareholders will win too.

Either they have to see/feel the painful impact on sales revenue, or there have to be penalties from regulators. I think this is one area where regulation is important - that is what we should expect possible from a modern civilization. It’s just way more efficient.

Maybe in the short term. But it’s playing with fire. Putting company reputation at risk like this is so perilous. A mass exodus of customers harms shareholders AND employees! At large enough scale, it destabilizes the economy.

No. No it’s not. Instead we’re seeing a foolish disregard for the rules of healthy free-market capitalism. It’s lazy and arrogant for any company to assume that they can (systemically and perpetually) mistreat anyone without consequences.
