Should have known much earlier that L'ak is Breen, as he's been wearing an outfit with a piece of characteristic metallic Breen fabric right since the start of #StarTrekDiscovery season 5 ('Red Directive'↖️). It was always a part of Breen uniforms ('Indiscretion'➡️, 'Mirrors'↙️).

This makes me want to got to Hollywood and work on Star Trek!

Horrible to hear this news, Ray was a huge force in the design world at 56 he was on his way to becoming one of the top Production Designer in the industry. Such a tragic loss.

Changing designs to work with production is one of the most 'Canon' things about Star Trek.
