I think this is what is meant by a 'blackthorn winter'. Bees & other pollinators all over the place (mostly too high up to see). Just down the road from University of Derby and Markeaton Park.

Thanks to my best friend (and husband) for his unquestioning support of my teaching activities #InternationalDayofFriendship - who else would live with my mammal resource collection ( 3 boxes of poo, 4 boxes of skulls and skins)?

Tachina ursina, a colourful fly that often basks on sunlit fences, etc. in April. Sometimes mistaken for a hoverfly. This one was at Potteric Carr, S. Yorks.

A Tortoise bug, Eurygaster testudinaria, in Fore Wood RSPB Reserve, E. Sussex on Sunday 2/6/24. It took a liking to my hand and was reluctant to return to the vegetation!
