#OTD in 1955, Roberto Clemente made his MLB debut. He slapped a single off Dodgers lefty Johnny Podres (and Jackie Robinson played 3B). The Pirates lost both games of a doubleheader. In the 1st game, Clemente played RF. In the 2nd game, he played CF going 2-for-4 with a double.

60 YEARS AGO: #OTD the #Mets would play their inaugural game at Shea Stadium. TRIVIA: Who would record the first strikeout at their new ballpark? Roberto Clemente (against Jack Fisher). The following day, “The Great One” would connect with the first-ever triple at Shea Stadium.

Just received confirmation that Carl Erskine, the lone Boys of Summer survivor, died at 2 am this morning, resulting from a bout with pneumonia. He was 97. It’s enough to make this grown man cry!!!
