Placing of a stumbling stone for Robert Broeckhove in Wilrijk, resistance fighter. In January 1942 he was arrested and taken to prison in Begijnenstraat. After held in Breendonk he was deported to the Mauthausen concentration camp, where he died in August 1942 #heldenvanhetverzet

Mortsel Remembrance #bombing5april1943 . In just eight minutes 936 people were killed, including 209 children when schools received direct hits. Over 1600 people severely injured. It was Belgium’s worst loss of life in a single incident during the entire war.
Tuesday 2nd April 2024 a funeral was held for 4 French soldiers of the First World War in the French cemetery of #SaintCharlesdePotyze , Belgium.
Today a stumbling stone was placed for Lode Sel Mortselsesteenweg 11 Deurne. Lode lived here when he was arrested on his 17th birthday, taken as a Night and Nebel prisoner. He died 80 years ago today while being transported to Natzweiler concentration camp. #heldenvanhetverzet
The beautiful and impressive Commonwealth War Graves #CabaretRougeBritishCemetery , France. The cemetery contains over 7,650 burials of the First World War, over half of which remain unidentified.
“Secret Army” Chapel in Hoelbeek, Belgium. Built in 1947 this was the hiding place for 800 resistance fighters from Bilzen-Genk-Kortessem. The marble columns next to the chapel bear the names of 54 resistance fighters who gave their lives for their country. #heldenvanhetverzet

I paid my respect to Sergeant Frederick John Davis, 72nd Bn Canadian Infantry. He enlisted in Vancouver, British Columbia September 24, 1915 and was killed in action March 1st, 1917 at the age of 29. Now resting Commonwealth War Graves #VillersStationCemetery , Villers-au-Bois, France.
