Took a break from my latest article to make some thumbnails. The new article makes the case for High-Kingship in the Hen Ogledd out of Alt Clut. Alt Clut, Gododdin, and even the Picts seem to have been intricately linked into an intertwined dynastic web in the 6th century.

This is quickly becoming the new popular fake Sun Tzu quote. It does not come from Sun Tzu and nothing in the original text comes close to this sentiment. As far as I can tell, it seems to be a slight variation of a line Lord Varys says about Littlefinger on “Game of Thrones.”

Trip to the rock today, with a quick raid to the museum next door. Interesting to find the face of a wheelmade(?) Mycenaean figurine amongst the stuff found there. One wonders what cult in Mycenaean Athens would have looked like, and who the object of veneration was…

St George is an incarnation of the ancient mythological dragon slayer.

Invoking his name in battle brings strength to your arm and courage to your heart.

Happy St George's Day!

One of the most important men in history...

Whatever his story was, I'm sure he would be gratified to know how successful his descendants were.

Jawmaxxing steppe chad elites who pushed south towards the Danube, conquering and assimilating settled farming cultures.

Their descendants would continue to push southwards along the Black Sea coast, all the way to the Bosphorus and beyond...

Probably.

1/ The almost unknown prehistoric Amfissa appears to have been an important Mycenaean center during the palatial period, as evidenced by the recent discovery of an unplundered monumental vaulted tomb on the outskirts of a hill located to the southwest of the modern city.

This ship looks bigger than the Golden Hind.

I often think about the storm they were caught in for weeks off the coast of Chile that blew them south into the mountainous seas of the Drake Passage.

How did those ancient mariners endure that kind of thing? Astonishing!

A late imperial Roman landscaped pool, built over a freshwater spring, containing coins, a ceramic Medusa face and deeper down - Neolithic flint tools and site evidence.
