fwiw, I do think this stuff should force the left to rethink its hostility to the more sophisticated arguments against the DEI-ification of university administration

race physiognomy in the 19th and 20th century was like 'ah so you see how the jew is truly an oriental mongrel' and today it's like 'ah so you see how the jew is clearly a pallid european'

Trying to imagine caring, even a tiny little bit, about this trial (including what Trump's professional liar Michael Cohen has to say) and failing badly.

This week, I heard someone use the term “BIPOC” unironically for the first time in years. Everyone is getting ready for Trump to be back in the White House.

'Don't punch left' is an increasingly popular progressive social norm. Here's why I believe liberals should not adhere to it. nymag.com/intelligencer/…

Wow. Brown up in 2024.

Another sign that Biden has been misreading national politics, pandering to base even as he needs to win voters in the middle.

I'm just as appalled, but I wonder if rather than a 'heavy whiff of end times' it's a sign that the country has reverted to the path we were on in the closing decades of the 19th century after 120-year-or-so experiment w something more responsible and stable.

Welp, Biden just lost the Haley voters. (I'm mostly joking. May 8 will be a distant, mostly forgotten memory on Nov 5.)

Twitter vs. Reality: A survey of 1,250 college students found that 8% had participated in either side of the protests. 34% blame Hamas for current situation, 19% blame Netanyahu, 12% blame Biden and 12% blame Israelis. Middle East was LAST of 9 issues when ranked by importance.

For those keeping score:

1. Likely no documents trial before the election;
2. Likely no J6 RICO trial in Georgia before the election;
3. Federal J6 trial in limbo pending SCOTUS decision on POTUS immunity;
4. The Stormy trial in NYC is all we're likely to get pre-November.

In light of Haley’s showing tonight in Indiana, I just want to remind you that in the PA primary on June 2, 2020, Bernie Sanders won 18 percent against Biden, whom he’d endorsed on April 14 after suspending his campaign on April 8.

I appreciate every Republican who refuses to endorse Trump. I really do. But saying you’re going to write someone in is such a cop out. If Trump is dangerous and unfit for the job then you vote for the only person who can keep him out of the White House.

An important political distinction:

The left thinks the right is gaining because the center legitimizes and makes common cause w it against the left

The center thinks the right is gaining because the left confirms everything the right says about it being unhinged and dangerous

Sam Francis was a prescient critic of 'the regime' who opposed Reaganism and wanted to steer the right toward something resembling Trumpism. Today's MAGA movement looks a lot like what he advocated for decades earlier.

1. The intros to Strauss' books are always highly rhetorical;
2. In this intro, Strauss opted for Weimar-era cultural-decline rhetoric;
3. It's telling that Hewitt calls this passage 'perhaps the most important paragraph' he ever wrote;
4. It think it's among the worst.

Out today: Anne Applebaum's excellent cover story about how propaganda is changing.

'Autocrats in China, Russia, and elsewhere are now making common cause with MAGA Republicans to discredit liberalism and freedom around the world.'
