A large filament located in the northern hemisphere erupted beginning around 22:45 UTC (May 12). This resulted in a CME that appears to be headed to the north and away from Earth.

An X2.7 flare was observed at 14/0825 UTC from Region 4087. This region has recently become active and also produced an M5.3 flare at 14/0325 UTC.

The expected #solarstorm series has arrived. The speed of this storm is fast, but the field strength is moderate thus far. G3 to G4 levels are possible during this early phase. A stronger region of the storm will likely come later, but for now #aurora is brightening quickly! GPS

UPDATE (21:00 UTC): the next CME has hit! This is a very interesting situation. The magnetosphere is already energized, we are at G1 storm level. Depending on how the CME behaves we could see stronger activity, perhaps up to G2-G3 level (EDIT: the SWPC has extended the Kp=7 or
