Des Moines Water Works new residential rate structure takes effect Feb. 1. The first block of rates is set lower to meet essential needs such as drinking, bathing & laundering. Those using 9,000+ gallons of water/month will begin to see an increase in their monthly bill.

Crabapple watch update: About 10 percent of the crabapple trees inside the Arie den Boer Arboretum are now in full bloom! There are close to 200 varieties and 700 trees in the arboretum. The main entrance to the park across from Gray’s Lake has reopened!

Did you know? A crabapple tree has a life span of about 30-40 years. Our Grounds staff grafts the old varieties in Des Moines Water Works Park so the legacy of Arie den Boer may live on. About 60% of the trees inside the arboretum will be in full bloom by April 18-20.
