This is another really visual to add to all of those I’ve seen about social distancing so far: washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/…

The cavalry is coming. Scientists are developing vaccines, trialling treatments, tracking and tracing the spread of #covid19 with genome sequencing and phylogenetics. You can help them. Stay inside, slow the spread. Buy them time.

When your institution doesn’t have access to the article you need, but you check ResearchGate and the authors have shared it!!

If anyone who sees this is anti-vaccines or is planning to not get vaccinated, I would love to have a conversation. Text or DM me. I have no desire to fight or guilt anyone, I just want to have a conversation, understand a little better and try to clear up any misunderstandings.

I am very excited to finally share my research on predicting the stability of collagen mimetic triple helices! nature.com/articles/s4155…

In follow up to my post last week, here is an accessible blog post in Nature’s “Behind the Paper” blog in which I talk about what it was like actually doing this research. This blog was a lot of fun to write! go.nature.com/3pO0r0r

Controlling self-assembly of collagen triple-helix with harnessing charge-free, amide−π interactions. We could capture these stabilizing interactions in details with combining experimental (NMR and CD) and computational (atomistic MD simulations) results. pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac…

A Synopsis of chemistry in 2022 from the American Chemical Society. Some of these may not mean a lot to some people outside of chemistry, but are really intriguing, others are really promising for all of us!

The Barbar lab is looking to hire a new postdoc! If you’re interested in intrinsic disorder, protein binding, biophysical techniques, or Covid-19 research, you may be a good fit Be prepared to learn and do bacterial expression and purification, routine biophysics, and lots of NMR

Excited to speak at OSU’s AI Week tomorrow! Flash talk: “How to know what’s believable” — using AlphaFold to predict protein structure/interactions. Poster: LC8 binding sites & lessons from fold-upon-binding. Come by if you’re around! #AlphaFold #AIWeek #ProteinStructure

New paper! We used AlphaFold to predict LC8 binding—hub protein that binds at disorder—and peeked into the black box. AF’s internal scores can classify binders and nonbinders, and even hint at binding affinity! doi.org/10.3389/fmolb.… #AlphaFold #IDPs #SLiMs #ML #ProteinBinding
