The Mariners are averaging the third-fewest runs in MLB, are 0-10 when trailing after the 6th inning and 0-9 when the other team scores first.

“They gave us an opportunity to take the game and the series -- and we just didn't go grab it.”

Scott Servais on today's final out:

'Julio is our fastest runner, we're certainly going to put him in the game. The guy made a good move and and obviously picked him off. It happens. But for me, that's not the not the play the cost us the game.'

Dominic Canzone is going to be “out for a little while,” Scott Servais just said. An IL stint and roster move is expected tomorrow.

Off the bench with two outs here in the 9th inning, Julio Rodríguez is picked off to end the game ... After five series this season, they’re still seeking a victory in a best-of-three or more.

The Mariners had two on with no outs and then the bases loaded with one out here in the 8th inning, but Ty France hit into a double play that keeps this a 3-2 game.

That's after Luke Raley hit into an inning-ending double play in the 7th, with the tying run on third.

Jorge Polanco makes this a one-run game with a massive, 399-foot homer here in the 6th inning.

That's his first of the season at T-Mobile Park, and the Mariners' first at home in their past five games.

Luis Castillo had Dansby Swanson in an 0-2 count but surrendered a leadoff double then had Michael Busch at 2-2 before giving up a two-run homer.

Both were against changeups at the bottom of the zone but that caught too much plate.

Luis Castillo looking much more like himself when striking out the side here in the 3rd inning -- and against three of the Cubs' best hitters, to boot.

Emerson Hancock rebounded last night, but the Mariners' offense couldn't cash in with key opportunities.

'When you get guys out there in games like this, and we play a lot of low-scoring close games, you do need to come through.'

Scott Servais said that it’s an “unplug” type of off-day for Julio Rodríguez, who’s hitting .186 with a .441 OPS. They’d like to steer clear of pinch-hitting him if possible.

“I think it's really important, not just from a physical side, but from the mental side.”

Emerson Hancock did his part. He also benefited from a lot of hard-hit balls finding gloves, which conversely, proved to be the same for the Mariners’ offense.
