Did you know that this year DIAS 2024 has a mobile phone category? Do you have photos that would qualify for our 'Night Sky in Your Hand' category? Full details can be found on reachforthestars.ie

PS This one wouldn't be eligible but we love it anyway šŸ˜‰

Dr Brian O'Halloran @[email protected] Iā€™d say more flares to come as the sunspot group is growing in size and complexity. Also now has a strong magnetic inversion line and a so-called delta classification.

Day 2 of my astronomical trip took me to Birr Castle in the midlands of Ireland, where I saw the Great Telescope (sometimes called the ā€œLeviathanā€). Dating from 1845, this was the worldā€™s largest telescope for over 70 years! Much still remains intact.

Incredible few days looking at sites of astronomy in Ireland (for my usual followers, not megaliths!) This from my first day - the two historic observatories at Dunsink near Dublin.

Christiaan Huygens FRS, was born in 1629. Amongst other achievements in maths, physics and astronomy, Huygens studied the rings of Saturn and discovered the planet's moon Titan. He also invented the pendulum clock, for centuries the most accurate timekeeper available.
