Spring conditions in the Adirondacks are some of the most challenging. The New York State Dept. of Environmental Conservation is encouraging visitors to stay out of the backcountry on April 8th and instead watch the eclipse from a designated viewing area.

Following this morning's 4.8 magnitude earthquake, 3 much smaller aftershocks hit our region: 1.8 magnitude at 12:31pm, 2.0 magnitude at 1:14pm, and 2.0 magnitude a few minutes ago.

Aftershocks of these sizes are normal and are not expected to cause further damage.

In support of the 4.8 magnitude earthquake that affected parts of NYS today, the State Emergency Operations Center has been activated.

DHSES staff are working closely with our local, state & federal partners to monitor the situation & support local requests for assistance.
