#OTD in 1888, the City of Detroit II was launched at Wyandotte by Detroit Dry Dock Co. The sidewheel steamer was designed by naval architect Frank E. Kirby, best known for the paddle steamer Tashmoo and Bob-Lo boats, Columbia and Ste. Clair. Learn more: detroithistorical.org/learn/encyclop…

Meier’s Wonderful Clock was exhibited at the Chicago world’s fair in 1934. Crafted over 12 years by Louis Meier Sr. of Detroit, it’s now at the Detroit Historical Museum (Detroit Hist Society).

#OTD in 1908, the first Ford Motor Company Model T went on sale. Originally hand-assembled at Ford's Piquette Avenue plant, only 11 cars were made during that first month, but it would go on to sell more than 15 million units by 1927. Learn more: detroithistorical.org/learn/encyclop…
