I’m proud to join Senator Ted Cruz in introducing the CLEAN D.C. Act. Our legislation builds on President Donald J. Trump’ historic action to make D.C. beautiful and safe again by reversing the liberal D.C. City Council’s reckless 2022 law that lessens penalties for violent crimes. 🔗:

DC is always a ghost town in August due to congressional recess and even local government is known to use August for vacation. There’s also no possible way you’re unaware of that.

Later this week Oversight Committee voting on lengthening minimum sentence for rape in DC. Bill authored by Andy Biggs. I support increasing rape sentences. Angered that the DC Council spent the past 10 years writing laws that help convicted rapists.

Today, we pause to honor the nearly 3,000 people killed that day, the thousands who have succumbed to 9/11-related illnesses since, and the service and sacrifice of the first responders who put themselves in harm’s way to save lives. We will never forget. #september11th

An “anti-violence worker” has been given a 22-year federal sentence for shooting a man during a carjacking spree in 2022. (He was also part of a group that helped young people manage anger.) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ cwbchicago.com/2025/09/anti-v…

On Wednesday the D.C. Council is expected to approve a 13% pay raise for police officers in the city. The total cost will be $312 million over 4 years. The pay raises are retroactive for two years, prospective for one. Starting salary for an officer will jump to $75k from $66k.

Councilmember Brooke Pinto (@cmbrookepinto) 's Twitter Profile Photo

We must continue supporting our local law enforcement to protect our city. We will continue to add officers to DC Police Department and these raises will help that goal.

President Trump has made D.C. safe again. Congress must ensure our nation’s capital stays safe by passing my CLEAN D.C. Act to repeal the D.C. Council’s anti-police law.

DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson voted to defund the police, yet he demands taxpayer-funded, 24/7 personal security. If that weren’t bad enough, DC Police Union further exposed his disgraceful conduct and stated he “hates cops.”

Without any evidence and, in fact, incorrectly, Phil Mendelson called the DC Police Union president a liar not once, but twice yesterday during a hearing on Capitol Hill. We still haven't heard any explanation from Mendelson.
