Today was the #FirstDayOfSchool in DC, and no family should have to worry about keeping a roof over their kids’ heads. But thousands of DC kids are at risk of becoming homeless if Mayor Muriel Bowser doesn’t bridge the gap between Rapid Rehousing and housing vouchers NOW.

Mayor Muriel Bowser Over 5,600 kids were homeless in the 2022-23 school year. With 2,000 families losing their Rapid Rehousing support without a safety net, that number could double this year.

Mayor Muriel Bowser How can a student focus on learning if their housing is unstable? As DC tries to prevent kids from missing school, keeping them housed is an important part of the solution. 🧵I worked hard to identify & fund #HousingVouchers in the budget so families leaving #RapidRehousing wouldn't be pushed into #Homelessness. It's illogical & inhumane to evict families, spending 2x more making them homeless, rather than continuing housing support a little longer.
