Reminder: WAMU 88.5 is a ratings juggernaut in the #8 national radio market, with one of the most educated and affluent audiences in the country. Today's news represents just a staggering failure of management and vision over a long period. ratings.radio-online.com/content/arb015

WAMU is supposedly shuttering DCist to focus on audio, but among the talented employees getting the axe is the most experienced, accomplished audio journalist at the station. These decisions are senseless and the purported reasoning shows a lack of respect for us all

After today's leadership-led bloodbath, it's looking like WAMU 88.5 will be left with less than a half-dozen reporters. At full strength sometime in late 2022, it had at least three times that number.

AU and WAMU gross mismanagement is far from new (remember how they protected serial sexual harasser Ma*tin D* C*ro), but giving embargoed interviews about shuttering a whole newsroom before you tell the staff, or make a plan to even archive the fucking stories, is so low.

Still reeling at the enormous and unnecessary cruelty of completely erasing decades of D.C. history by wiping the entire DCist archive off the face of the internet. We should be able to access our clips and you (readers) should be able to look back on that historical record

The whole press release is just grotesque corporate-speak. And what's worse is how it was spoon-fed to Axios, which hasn't updated its story with any non-management quotes or to fix an obvious mistake about a WAMU show. I need a shower after reading this.

It’s time for WAMU 88.5 and American University’s leaders to listen and immediately make @dcist’s extensive news archive public again. It’s a matter of public interest, of local history, of countless hours of work by people reporting on their communities. I’m 100% with WeMakeWAMU is a union.
