In the first 9 months of implementing a national default 20mph limit for urban/village roads, 489 people in Wales won prizes as a result. The prize was being one of the 489 people not being killed or harmed on those on those roads.

Results are in with only a handful of roads in the running to revert back to 30mph. Hopefully the next phase in the process of consultation will only involve the people who live in these areas. It would be interesting to see what their feelings are on what the limit should be.

Good article on how the Dutch use 30km/h limits. Amsterdam already has 30km/h on 80% of its roads including many arterials. Higher speeds are very much used only where there are segregated and protected facilities for vulnerable road users. bit.ly/422ftX5
