Best of luck to all the Cub Packs who will be out on the water today for the “Just Add Water” national initiative. If your Cub Pack failed to make plans to participate and are planning on doing a water activity during their summer camp, they could also earn this badge. #ScoutsIE

Well done to the 16th Meath Kildalkey for making a difference in their village by Going Green and protecting our pollinators. Over the past 2 weeks, the Cubs researched plants, dug up soil in a raised bed, enriched it and then planted a bed of bee friendly flowers and plants.

Programme Tip of the Week: Make sure that your Cub Scouts know exactly where to place their hard-earned badges. Explain that the Adventure Skills badges for lower stages should be removed and replaced when a higher stage badge is earned.

Next weekend 300 Cubs will descend on Portlick – capital of the Roman Empire, for the National Cub Scout Challenge. A record 49 teams will compete for the coveted trophy, an increase of 36% on last year. This is obviously the hot event in Scouting Ireland. Looking forward to it!

Programme Tip of the Week: Underwater Scope Sometimes the best way to learn about what goes on in the water is to get right down in it. Have the Cub Scout make an Underwater Scope so as to get a different view on what is going on under the surface.

Programme Tip of the Week: This is the best time to go butterfly hunting. If you don’t have a butterfly net, adapt the net you made for pond dipping by using fine muslin or a piece of an old net curtain for the net. Use this handy chart to identify the butterflies you catch.
