Currently Esther Sutton & I are at tonight's full council meeting

Before we joined the protest organised by local environmental groups. It's been 5 years since Croydon declared a climate emergency and yet very little has been done.

Follow this thread for updates on the meeting

During 'Croydon Question Time' we heard solid challenges from residents on the Mayor's lack of action to tackle the climate emergency.

Constitution Changes:

We felt that we couldn’t vote for the constitution amendments tonight because the changes to the Health and Wellbeing board dictates 3 Labour members and 3 Conservative must sit on the board, leaving no space for other opposition parties!

This is despite raising concerns previously during a constitution working group meeting.

It's another example of how the legacy of the previous makeup of the council continues, refusing to acknowledge that there are now Greens, and a Lib Dem, in the council.

Local Plan:

Coming up to the 5th anniversary of Croydon’s declaration of a climate emergency we feel that the local plan does not go far enough.

There is more the Council could put in place via the local plan.

This is why we abstained on the local plan as presented.

Members just heard from Esther Sutton challenging the Mayor.

We’re halfway through his term but the long-awaited review of the carbon neutral action plan is yet to be seen.

It’s a climate emergency but we’re yet to see him acting with any urgency to tackle it!

Conservative Group Motion:

Although there are some good parts, we are unable to vote for the Conservative motion as we feel that there is still a very long way to go before residents will trust the council on planning matters. The process remains opaque and largely inaccessible!
