Lovely stroll up above Mar Lodge yesterday afternoon. It is however that time of year when your heart skips when it sees great wafts of smoke rising from the forests, only to happily realise it's pine pollen.

I'm really going to have to get a spider ID book, cos I keep encountering species I've never seen before. The markings on this tiny wee thing were stunning. Four yellow triangles, two stripes, and a blob 😉

Ghost of a fallen tree. All that’s left after a few decades is a ridge of decomposed wood merging into the soil, and the Wood Sorrel that used to grow on the fallen trunk, slowly losing its niche from under it.

And another wee stunner. Glischrochilus quadripunctatus....I think?? I could (and often do) spend a whole afternoon perusing a wood pile 🙂

5hrs ago....😴 Off to do my BBS square on the Geldie/Feshie march. Always horrid getting up at 4am, but always so nice to be out somewhere so remote as the day is starting 🙂
