“WTBU” is one of the most useful communication technologies I know of. It stands for “Watch Team Back-Up”, I believe it originated to reduce mistakes on nuclear submarines. You prepend it to a message to someone where you’re pointing out something that might be obvious, but you

If I've blocked you as of late, it's probably because I saw you interface with a debate where other people are trying to communicate on simulacrum level 1 and make a deliberate effort to move the conversation up simulacrum levels. Don't do that.

A lot of liberal criticism of activist behavior is roughly "this is ineffective at achieving your goals" but 1) The activist goals are generally bad, and, 2) Separately and more importantly, their methods are immoral and should be punished regardless of the merits of the goals

Does anyone have a link to the agriculture "lol Mark thinks the crops need to take turns" tweet? I had a discussion with a friend and I just realized it's a really good illustration of something I was saying.

For those who listened to music between 1960-2020, what’s the album that from that time period that sticks with you the most? (Picking just one is likely to be hard, that's part of what makes it an interesting question.)

Original Umbrella (In RE 1-3 and remakes) doesn't *try* to destroy the world or cause mass casualties. It just constructs extremely dangerous entities for normal corporate reasons, then very predictably loses control of these entities, with horrible results. This is a subtweet.

So what I'm hearing is there's a Kipling poem that's never been made public, heard only by members of a secretive fraternity. guys GUYS I just had *the best* idea for the next Indiana Jones movie.

"an eye for an eye leaves the world blind" this is obviously false. how many people have you blinded in your life? would someone maliciously blinding you make you more likely to extrajudicially blind someone else? everyone saying this is a criminal or the dupe of one

I have nothing against AI music- I like some of it- but this saddens me. Zombocom was a pretty great joke, and it went on long enough to constitute a piece of history. I'd be equally sad if they replaced it with purely human-generated content.

Ian Miles Cheong The U.S. is bizarrely also under a blockade for U.S. shipping. It’s called the Jones Act. We really should fix it but we aren’t starving because of it.
