Yesterday, reforms led by the UK and Costa Rica to improve NGO participation at the United Nations were adopted by consensus. This increases transparency and efficiency of the NGO Committee, making it easier for civil society to have their voices heard.

Costa Rica was elected this morning as a Vice President of the ECOSOC for the 2024-2025 cycle and will lead the Humanitarian Segment. The new bureau will be led by Canada (President), with Poland and Nepal also as Vice Presidents. 🇨🇷🇨🇦🇵🇱 🇺🇳🇳🇵

Today’s #UNGA resolution adopting the modalities for the High Level Meeting on the existential threats posed by sea-level rise is a win for all 🌊 Co-facilitators NZ at the UN and Costa Rica @ the UN led complex and lengthy negotiations to ensure the success of September’s crucial meeting.

Many Member States, including small island developing states & coastal communities, are vulnerable to the threats posed by sea-level rise. This United Nations HLM will help drive comprehensive action, and represents a significant moment in ensuring the issue of SLR has a home in the UNGA.

The high-level meeting will mark a watershed moment in our collective response to the complex threat of rising sea levels.   It will offer an unparalleled platform for our leaders to discuss thiscritical issue and outline their concrete, urgent proposals for action. #SLR
