From next April the 45% top rate of tax (applies to those earning £150,000) will be scrapped. So the top rate will be the 40% higher rate threshold. This means mega earners, pay the same rate as those on £50,000. #MiniBudget

Those tax cuts in full - totalling a permanent fiscal loosening of £45bn. - absolutely massive tax cuts for high earners (someone on £300k just got around a £10,000 tax cut!) - means debt will be rising in every single year going forward

I think people haven’t yet priced in exactly who gains from abolishing the 45p rate… This isn’t about cuts for people on £150k, or even £200k. Most of the gain goes to those *much* higher up. I did some further analysis using HMRC data (with Arun Advani and Andy Summers) 🧵
