A hugely important point here, and one of our guiding principles for building a more equal education system. But good evidence too that educ system is not as equal as it could be - school funding getting less progressive, teaching worse in poorer schools, few 2nd chances, ...

👩‍🏫2022 results reveal female students are outperforming males in the vast majority of subjects. With female students succeeding in male-dominated subjects, for example computing, physics and economics, much more must be done to encourage more girls into these areas of study.

From next April the 45% top rate of tax (applies to those earning ÂŁ150,000) will be scrapped. So the top rate will be the 40% higher rate threshold. This means mega earners, pay the same rate as those on ÂŁ50,000. #MiniBudget

Torsten Bell (@torstenbell) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Those tax cuts in full - totalling a permanent fiscal loosening of ÂŁ45bn. - absolutely massive tax cuts for high earners (someone on ÂŁ300k just got around a ÂŁ10,000 tax cut!) - means debt will be rising in every single year going forward

I think people haven’t yet priced in exactly who gains from abolishing the 45p rate… This isn’t about cuts for people on £150k, or even £200k. Most of the gain goes to those *much* higher up. I did some further analysis using HMRC data (with Arun Advani and Andy Summers) 🧵

We need to talk about #foodpoverty in #earlyyears - under-5s are more likely to face food poverty which is damaging for early development - see our new report on this important but neglected topic ⬇️

Why do we have free meals for early primary children but not for our pre-school children? We know nutrition in #earlyyears is vital for development and that under-5s face higher risk of food poverty - my piece in Schools Week schoolsweek.co.uk/early-years-nu…
