"Conan is the biggest and most popular fantasy hero in the world. He’s the original, the template, the Superman of sword and sorcery (and even predates Superman’s arrival by six years). "-Jim Zub on year two aiptcomics.com/2024/06/18/jim…

Love it or hate it, the 1982 Conan film was for many their introduction to anything Conan. It’s influence on pop culture and Conan fandom can’t be denied. It may make some purists bristle, but I dig how Jim Zub is making little nods to the film without butchering the REH canon.

I understand that comics are a visual medium, so it’s hard to resist, but I’m always a bit bugged by the conflation of Solomon Kane’s Puritanism with Catholicism. Catholicism is a visual imagery rich religion, but Puritans viewed veneration of such imagery as idolatry.

We all know Conan was “born on the battlefield.” But what of his mother? The REH canon gives no definitive answer. Some adaptations has had her live. The recent Titan comic has her die on the battlefield. What say you? Should Conan know his mother or not? Why or why not?

While I have enjoyed every issue of Titan’s Savage Sword, issue 7 may be my favorite. To have the venerable Conan scribe Roy Thomas teamed with Roberto de la Torre’s art in this issue is everything classic SSoC fans have dreamed of. Cover art: Alex Horley

An auspicious beginning to the Solomon Kane miniseries, which will likely determine the Puritan’s comics future. Writer/artist/colorist Patrick Zircher takes a deep dive into European history with a Kane twist in what seems like a real passion project for him. 👍🏻 ⚔️
