I recently visited a known site for Lady Clermont's Spleenwort, Asplenium x clermontiae. This hybrid between Wall-rue (A. ruta-muraria) and Maidenhair Spleenwort (A. trichomanes) is surprisingly rare, given how common the parents are, and is known from only two sites in Britain.

A day out in Wallsend and four more #urbanflora squares visited. Highlights of Italian Arum, Early Dog-violet, Alexanders and an usual comfrey. Leaning towards Hidcote Comfrey (Symphytum x hidcotense).

Three-nerved Sandwort (Moehringia trinervia) from a sandy woodland edge at Shrawley Woods this afternoon. Sepals longer than petals, petals entire - not bifid like Stellaria media. Leaves nicely displaying three prominent veins on the lower surface. #Caryophyllaceae #VC37
