Nichelle Nichols was a groundbreaking icon - today we mourn her passing and celebrate her wonderful life. As the first Black woman on Star Trek, she was a fierce advocate for diversity that paved the way for many. Your home state of Illinois will forever treasure your legacy.

Chicago lost a daughter today in Nichelle Nichols. The long arc of her iconic and storied career all began in our great city. Nichelle was a trailblazer, paving the way for Black women on the small and big screen alike. 🧵 nytimes.com/2022/07/31/obi…

Pushing back against the fear-mongering around the Safe-T Act. Re: meme listing non-detainable offenses, truth is the current system already allows ppl out if they have money for bail. Under new law bail is not a factor but judges are able to detain ppl they deem to be a threat.

We are confident that by directly investing in our residents – by giving poor folks what they need most, cash - we will have meaningful impact on our communities and create lasting change here in Cook County.
