This week, Ladder 1 visited Ridgeway Elementary to talk fire safety! 🚒🧯 Firefighters showed how they gear up and reminded students not to be afraid - gear or no gear, we’re here to help. They also practiced calling 911 in emergencies! 👨‍🚒📞

This week, all CFD shifts are completing hands-on HazMat training - reviewing decontamination steps and getting familiar with the HazMat truck and tools. Regular training like this ensures our teams are ready to respond safely and effectively when hazardous situations arise.

In 1901, Columbia’s first fire chief helped design a horse-drawn fire wagon, built by a local carriage company. Horses Prince & Dan pulled it until 1913, and even in retirement, they’d run to the station when alarms rang. The tools may change, but our mission doesn’t.
