A settlement of House v. NCAA has been the most likely outcome once NCAA lost the motion to dismiss and class certification. NCAA could have avoided spending millions on attorneys and whatever it will pay in a settlement if it had been just been mildly open to reform years ago.

The FTC banning noncompetes has enormous implications for the sports industry. From coaches' contracts, to prohibitions on athletes playing in two leagues, to NIL and endorsement deals, to analytics work contracts--the range is very wide.

As expected, the NCAA DI Board rubber stamped changes to permit (1) athletes to transfer an unlimited amount of times without penalty and (2) schools to facilitate athlete NIL deals with third parties (but not to pay them directly).

A federal court said the NCAA’s transfer rules are likely illegal and enjoined them in December.

College athletes have been free to transfer multiple times and play right away since then.

That’s why the NCAA has now changed its rules.

'The NBA has shared and will continue to share information with federal prosecutors about this matter.'

That might be the most important line. It's bad to be banned from a league, it's a lot worse to potentially be the subject of an investigation of interest to law enforcement.
