Short-term sacrifices for long-term growth & riches. The antithesis of the modern-day “student athlete”…introducing Greg Jones ladies & gentlemen👊🏾 Shoutout to Dean David Marchick & Kogod School of Business for assisting our players for life after basketball.

Was reminded of the value in a competitive game of “21” last night. Introduced to my kids and some others at the Rec. Gained experience creating;playing in a crowd; rebounding in traffic; thinking situations; playing through contact, etc. More unstructured play on the horizon!

99% of NIL recipients are not making retirement money. Especially after they pay their agents, lawyers and families. So what careers are they being prepared for, considering they’ll have 40+ years to live after they’re finished with college?

Proud of my 1st born Mariah Hardy for winning 3 major senior awards for excellence academically, athletically and service! Honored to see her live the values I’ve fought so hard to try to instill throughout my entire coaching career!!

Been around a lot of college drops offs over the years, but it hits different when it’s your first born! Confident Mariah Hardy will flourish in this next phase of her academic and athletic journey!!

These thoughts occupy my mind, everyday. It is out of control and hurting the vast majority of our young people. Some will navigate and have a chance. Most won’t know they got duped until college is over.

Proud to see all 4 active NBA players I had the pleasure of coaching in college sign MULTIPLE contracts. Great families, humble, high character. Sat in the living rooms w/ 3 out of 4 & pitched leveraging academic experience + basketball. All handled business while mastering craft

Hundreds of young people that had full-ride athletic scholarships, are still stuck in the transfer portal. Some were run off by previous coaches, some followed bad 3rd party advice and others misinterpreted their market value. Who advocates for these young athletes?

In college that “bag” you been working on go out the window! The bag for college is: pick and roll reads, catch and shoot 3s, defending, IQ plays. The 4 move combo with the spin you will probably never do.

Speaking as a parent of young athletes, it is incumbent upon US to help our kids understand their sports are a vehicle to help prepare them for life lessons, education & relationship building. Leveraging financial growth opportunities is an incredible bonus. Not end all be all.

Everything I sold to recruits during my collegiate coaching career, I also stressed at home. Excited for my daughter to attend such a prestigious institution, while pursing her athletic goals!

Constant recruitment during middle school, high school (including AAU teams), college is not healthy. Commitment, pushing through adversity, being held to a standard, recognizing need for improvement then fighting for it…. All lost when you’re constantly being bought/sold.

Indefinite eligibility in college athletics has me thinking…. I could’ve made real money playing in the power 4 until at least age 34. Then transfer down for legacy purposes until I was 40. Covid season would’ve been my curtain call.
