In the US, 1.6m people watched the Euros final. 6m people watched the Copa America final. Regulating the passion of the game makes it a less compelling product.

Agree on your assessment and model my own conduct in that way. However, viewers want to see conflict, heroes, villains. They want to love, and to hate; to remove those elements results in a product that moves, in the emotional sense, no one who watches.
