Legacy automakers are so far behind on EV technology that even a 30% tariff wall won't save them from Chinese competition.

Policymakers should focus their carrots and sticks on helping legacy automakers compete at lower price ranges instead of artificially propping up EV prices.

In return, the Japanese automaker is receiving $2.5B from Ontario taxpayers for capital costs.

Another $2.5B comes from the federal government in tax credits.
