According to Sightline Climate (CTVC) data, VC financing for carbon markets tech has exploded this year. Most has focused on offsets for voluntary markets. In all the celebration, I've seen very little discussion on offset quality. Quality matters! #EnergyTwitter #EnergyTransition

Deeptech #CleanEnergy startups are tough bc of: ⚙️Supply chains 🏭Manufacturing 🤹‍♀️Distribution 🧑‍🔬Tech Scaleup (more science risk than investors admit) 🐢Slow Customers (OEMs, utilities) But IP and competition are often clear and markets massive. So the risk can be worth it.

Biofuels are vital for the #EnergyTransition where liquid fuels are advantaged, weight & fueling speed matter (tough for batteries), and cost & infrastructure is easy (tough for hydrogen). And green methanol will be biofuels’ link to a zero-carbon world. #energytwitter IRENA

"In 2020, EVs made up 5.6% of all new car sales in China. Last year, proportion was over 13%. For 2022, data shows that EVs will comprise roughly a quarter of all cars sold" Prior estimates wrong: -Canalys: 10% by 2025 (beat) -McKinsey: 9M by 2030 (>on track; 6m in 2022 alone)

Exponential technologies operate on exponential curves. Hard to model that type of market growth. The 2030 estimate in 2021 for solar PV capacity is 30x the 2006 estimate! 4x for wind (both onshore + offshore).
