The crowd management tonight meant the European Cup final was genuinely one of the worst experiences of my life. The panic and fear on people's faces was horrible. Didn't concentrate on the game at all and could hardly care less about the result. Hope everyone is safe and well.

Two and a half hours before the game and police causing ridiculously dangerous bottlenecks before being indiscriminately tear gassed at gates including kids. #UEFA #FrenchPolice absolute disgrace

This is exactly what happened.

What summed up the out of proportion reaction, aside from pepper spray and tear gas, was that with a few minutes of the game remaining a police cordon appeared only at the Liverpool end. This despite the fact there was not a scintilla of trouble or threat amidst the crowd.

I was in Paris last Saturday. I was also at Hillsborough. Today I told Parliament if it was not for the magnificent efforts of Liverpool fans in Paris, we could have had another disaster. Shamefully the smears & lies by the authorities were straight from the Hillsborough playbook

I am not for a second disputing that you should be prepared to make sacrifices to your defence for what Trent Alexander-Arnold brings in attack. But is it totally unreasonable to ask for him to show signs of progress defensively?
