The House of the Faun in #Pompeii is so named for this figure of a dancing faun (though technically a satyr). The original statue is housed in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale Naples while its copy occupies its original position. #ClassicsTwitter

It's #FrescoFriday! The #Sappho #fresco remains perhaps the single most famous Pompeiian fresco. It is tempting to identify her as the poet of Lesbos but the most likely candidate is simply an unknown woman. #ClassicsTwitter

Christianity replaced pagan gods with just one God, but artists of the Renaissance simply could not resist retelling the scandalous stories inherited from the ancients. This term's #arthistory course will look at the legacy of a different deity each week. bit.ly/47prE0C

Warning! My first book NOT for kids is just out. #Pantheon is a beginner's guide to the Greek gods & goddesses, beautifully illustrated by Flora Kirk. I've tried to be sensitive but am still giving this book a 12A rating: there may be moderate violence, sex references and nudity!
