If you have the option of going to an independent movie theater instead of a corporate one, do the independent one. Every time. This applies to most things in general, but also, indie theaters are so damn cheap in Portland. I know 2 places with $5 beers (Hollywood and Cinemagic).

I love the movie theaters in Portland without shame. I'm a member of the Hollywood Theatre and a regular at Laurelhurst Theater, CineMagic Theater, Cinema 21, and livingroompdx... with McMenamins Breweries Bagdad there for the occasional blockbuster.

14 years ago today The Dark Knight hit theaters. What a gem.

Disney: "Let's send these hit movies to streaming but release the one that looks like Disney Channel circa 2004." Netflix: "Let's pull this hit movie from theaters after 1 week and leave like 100 mil on the table." Universal: "COCAINE BEAR! COMING THIS FEB ONLY IN THEATERS!"
