#newbies Nothing you've ever done or learned goes to waste. I got hired on a show re: a girl athlete bec I played sports & let SR know. Also hired to write a Soccer film. You mine EVERYTHING. Look for projects where u are an expert. Got a manager? Let them know u can write that.

VERY #newbie wrote script w/ repped writer. Manager agreed to rep the GREAT script. Smart newbie said they wanted their own rep for future work (ALMOST done). Newb suggested 6 mos contract as a trial. Manager loved them, drive, ideas & AGREED. Great instincts! Helps to be bold!

Friend w/ lots of credits hit a work lull. New great manager. Meetings w/ HUGE A list stars w/ TV production deals. Film & pop stars (you know them) selling projects by TV writers. They know ZERO re TV but studios want to be in biz w/ them. Even animation! Side attack to get work

A question was posed to a group of us if they could be trusted with a secret. Everyone was adamant, 'Yes, absolutely!' Well, I can't lie. When she asked me I said, 'I'm a storyteller. I wouldn't be trusting me with any secrets.'

#newbies Doom re: H. Reporter: writing is dead. Focus on positives. Hallmark & Lifetime buying, Netflix MUST feed beast, networks need content. Models change but still NEED hit shows. I had 0 chance of getting hired on few shows. Or 'comedy is dead.' Know facts, follow your path.

This script/episode got me into #WGA . REALLY broad physical comedy. 60 MILLION viewers! A live BEAR enters Laverne & Shirley's apt. They had to NOT tip the grizzly was approaching from behind. TY, Ashley!

As a vegetarian, I never eat anything that has a face. Except for chocolate Easter Bunnies and Peeps (purple!) Tore their little heads off. And I feel guilty because they're so cute.

Dolly: Jolene, I'm BEGGING

Beyonce: Jolene, I'm WARNING you, don't come for my man.
Always set character's attitude.

Diner. Ordered pancakes w/ bananas. Came w/ NO bananas! Called Manager.
Him: I PERSONALLY put them in.
Me: No, you didn't. You're at the register.
Mad, brings me 5 sliced 'b's.
Me: Why don't I cook my ENTIRE meal?
HIM: Next time order extra bananas.
ME: Not EXTRA. Just bananas!

Trader Joe's, stuck buying YELLOW bananas. Guy passed by w/ PERFECT green ones. He left his cart alone & I thought oh, I can quickly swap them. Victimless crime. I mean he'd HAVE bananas. I'd just have better ones for a week. I could even drop $5 in his cart. The PERFECT crime.

#newbies 'A good script has legs.' Your script is SO good it starts to get passed around. I'm sure my 1st scripts noted: 'She's green, but there's something.' Kept writing/learning til my scripts were passed to hiring producers w/o me knowing. That's where you can get your break.

Palm Royale w/ a fun ensemble of actresses & being compared to Big Little Lies re: sisterhood/women's stories, comedy/drama. BOTH based on books. Does that mean an original pilot w/ a great cast wouldn't get made even w/ a Dern, Witherspoon, or Kidman attached? Bring back SCRIPTS

It was a cold, windy day so I figured I'd get my 10K steps in by walking around Macy's. A woman came up to me and asked, 'Do you have bathing suits with extra support?'
I looked at her and said, 'I think we can all use a little extra support. But I don't work here.'

Chatting further w/ a video game writer #newbie who broke in. She sent out 400 resumes. 400! I told her: KEEP sending. Would you go to extremes for your dream? It's often a numbers game. Or make huge changes in your life? Or total trust in a mentor's advice? Will you be that YES?
