What is wrong with wanting to be excellent at what we do? Why is that a problem for Arts Council England? The solution is to be rubbish at opera, but as long as we perform in car parks or on tablets, they’ll fund it. Will they tell The RSC that they can’t perform Shakespeare any more?

Susan Spain-Dunk was an English composer, conductor and violinist/violist.

Two programmes from 1927. The second programme was possibly the first of its kind anywhere in the UK perhaps the world. Bournemouth Muncipal Orchestra (now @bsorchestra) under Sir Dan Godfrey leading the way for equality nearly one hundred years ago. #InternationalWomensDay
