Paper of the week🌟!

This CSI Palliative Care paper advances understandings of grief. Building on existing theories (dual process model/continuing bonds) we highlight the experience of those trapped by feelings of numbness or 'liminality' after their partner died. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Slightly tired of yet another famous, white, privileged, able person being given a platform to say “I want this”

Impact of assisted dying / suicide on palliative care:

If researchers don’t report the ethnicity, socioeconomic position etc of research participants, how do we know if interventions work as well in different groups?
The answer is we don’t. And we therefore risk inadvertently widening inequalities.
We have to get better at this.

Thank you Hugo Rifkind for writing this thoughtful, nuanced column about assisted dying - it can’t have been easy. You haven’t muddied the waters. They *are* muddy, and it’s honest and helpful to discuss this. thetimes.co.uk/article/an-ass…

Heartbreaking systematic review on effectiveness of primary palliative care. 4 RCTs identified, none with significant benefits on patient's quality of life.

Real need for effective interventions to act upon what was flagged by World Health Organization (WHO) as focus for care integration.
