Am learning that in American protest(/riot) scenarios, US media take zero chances — helmets, Kevlar, stab vests. “LA cops love to beat up journalists,” explained a senior, seasoned reporter beside me when I asked about his gear.

Quick 🧵 on where we are right now. Calls for de-escalation (a reflex for diplomats) are going to fall on deaf ears. Israel chose a war; Israel and Iran are on an escalatory path. If anything can push them off that path it will probably be military constraints, not diplomacy.

Israel's defense minister would like you to know that his tweet saying "the residents of Tehran will pay the price, and soon" was not actually a threat against the residents of Tehran (clearly someone in the Israeli government gave Katz a talking-to)

Trying to think back, but was there ever a great level of debate in the Assembly chamber? Even in the old NI Parliament, I never remember being pointed to a great speech or set of remarks. That's not to say it's ok, just a sad feature of how things have been.
