There were a couple of inscriptions for my collection too, including this tomb slab of 6yo little Victoria Uvedale commissioned by her aunt.

Remains of a late C7th or early C8th log coffin which was found at Wydon Eals Farm, near Featherstone Castle in Northumberland . One of several discovered during the C19th, this coffin is part of the museum collections at Durham Cathedral. 📸 My own. #Woodensday #Medieval

Not a tomb (but churchyards) - can anyone identify these 2 churches, probably upland SE Wales, photos from the archive of the Clark firm of masons

Someone on the Other Place identified the churches in our earlier posting so here are 2 more. Both from Clarke's archive so probably SE Wales. I feel I should know the Romanesque arch but I can't place it.

This intriguing pillar with a carving of a hedgehog (? - or could it be a porcupine) has turned up in a Herefordshire graveyard. It's very slightly coffin shaped but not really wide enough. Has anyone seen anything similar, anywhere? Thoughts??

Still time to book for our pop-up tour of All Hallows, Twickenham on 16 April - details at churchmonumentssociety.org/events/a-wren-…, book or pay on the day. Lots of good tombs and a gorgeous macabre gateway.

Still time to sign up for the afternoon at Cheam 24 May - tours of the Lumley Chapel (a little medieval gem) and Whitehall Historic House and talk about Lumley's garden at Nonsuch. Also lots of good places for tea afterwards. churchmonumentssociety.org/events/nonsuch…
