At a meeting with the Ministry of Health today, George Laryea-Adjei stressed the need to keep healthcare services running for children and women even as Sri Lanka faces an economic crisis.

Children’s education was severely disrupted in #SriLanka due to the pandemic & now the economic crisis is causing further disruptions. At the Mount Jean school in Watawala village, I learnt that many students are unable to attend school regularly.

What moved me the most was that despite the challenges, when I spoke with the children and young people, they talked to me about their dreams. We must remember their hopes and dreams. And children must be put first as the country works to resolve this crisis.

At the Batapotha clinic in Bataramulla, #SriLanka, I met 2-month-old Mevin & his mother. They had come in for a routine immunization visit. Health services for children & mothers must be prioritized during the crisis, so children can be protected from life-threatening diseases.
