Delighted to have Dr Michael Gropper (chair UCSF) back in NYC, this time at Weill Cornell. Great talk from a distinguished academician. My favorite slide is the one that describes a 300% mortality from a single surgery Weill Cornell Medicine Anesthesiology HSS Anesthesiology UCSF Anesthesia and Perioperative Care
One of the wonderful things about the annual ASA meeting is unexpectedly running into old friends and colleagues. Here with Stuart Grant, professor and division chief of regional anesthesia at UNC. UNC Anesthesiology HSS Anesthesiology #ANES2019
Weill Cornell residents well-represented at the ASA. Congratulations to Ariel Anderson (far right) who presented a medically challenging case of an infraclavicular catheter placed for vasodilation. Weill Cornell Medicine Anesthesiology HSS Anesthesiology #ANES2019
Delighted to finally meet Prof Nathan Pace (Univ Utah) while attending the ASA Research session this morning. His early meta on hip fx was an inspiration early in my academic career. He now works with the Cochrane collaboration. @UofU_Anesthesia HSS Anesthesiology #ANES2019
Congrats to the research team led by Professor Stavros Memtsoudis. Megan Fiasconaro, Janis Bekeris, and Lauren Wilson presented a total of 3 oral abstract presentations in one session. HSS Anesthesiology Weill Cornell Medicine Anesthesiology Stavros G Memtsoudis #ANES19
Congratulations to Dr Arissa Torrie (future HSS regional anesthesia fellow, current Hopkins resident) on her FAER resident scholar abstract award. We are eagerly looking forward for you to start your fellowship at HSS! HSS Anesthesiology Weill Cornell Medicine Anesthesiology Johns Hopkins ACCM #ANES19
Delighted to have the world renowned (tweeter) Ed Mariano as our grand rounds speaker today. He has been very generous with his time, giving multiple lectures to residents, fellows, and staff. Thanks Ed!@HSSAnesthesia Stanford Anesthesiology
Wrong sided block: at patient safety meeting at RCoA yesterday. Fabulous meeting, great speakers. Despite checklists/time-outs, wrong sided blocks occur. One proposed solution-lock block needles up & release only before block HSS Anesthesiology Weill Cornell Medicine Anesthesiology Royal College of Anaesthetists ASRA Pain Medicine
A sign in London (next tweet) made me think about our informed consent process prior to surgery. How many people actually use the word “death” or “die” when you discuss risks? ASRA Pain Medicine Weill Cornell Medicine Anesthesiology HSS Anesthesiology
Pretty definitive warning. Sign I saw while walking in London. Weill Cornell Medicine Anesthesiology HSS Anesthesiology ASRA Pain Medicine
Thank you to Prof Hugh Hemmings and the BJA for inviting me to be a member of the editorial board. Humbled to have the opportunity to contribute to one of the top anesthesiology journals today. Great discussion on wrong sided blocks. No matter what we do they still occur albeit infrequently. I do want to give credit for the lock box needle idea which was presented in an excellent lecture by Dr Matt Wikner Royal College of Anaesthetists ASRA Pain Medicine HSS Anesthesiology Weill Cornell Medicine Anesthesiology
Nice article on history of anesthetic in BBC. Note the sentence stating 300% mortality for a single surgical procedure. bbc.com/future/article… via BBC Future
