We investigated the tumor microenvironment (neutrophils and fibroblasts) in this study. As a transcription lab, we clearly needed some help. A big thank you to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory collaborators in the Tuveson (esp Giulia Biffi) and Mikala Egeblad labs. elifesciences.org/articles/53381

Tim, it has been a privilege to work with you and to publish these three studies together. The squamous PDAC research will continue here, building upon your work.

ZBED2 Funfact#1: It belongs to the BED family of zinc finger proteins that evolved from a domesticated hAT DNA transposon. ZBED2 is only 218 aa, and lacks the catalytic domain, but retains its BED-subtype zinc finger for DNA binding. journals.plos.org/plosone/articl…

ZBED2funfact#2: This gene evolved recently and there is no mouse ortholog. This might be why ZBED2 had not been studied before and poses challenges for studying its function in a model organism. journals.plos.org/plosone/articl…

ZBED2funfact3: The normal expression pattern of ZBED2 in skin and esophagus suggests a role in normal squamous lineages, which might be related to the biased expression of ZBED2 we see in adenosquamous pancreatic tumors. pnas.org/content/early/…
