If I'm lucky enough to be doing this job for 5-10 more years, will it sound the same from the Steelers every Sept., w/ Tomlin saying they aren't seeking comfort, they urgently need to win, etc, all while they pay for defense, don't have a big-time QB, and aren't a real threat?

Talks are progressing on a contract extension between the #Steelers and tight end Pat Freiermuth, sources tell Brooke Pryor and me. Pittsburgh trying to get him signed before Sunday’s kickoff.

The #Steelers and TE Pat Freiermuth agreed to terms on a four-year, $48.4 million contract extension, per Athletes First. Freiermuth is still only 25 and now locked up in Pittsburgh for the long haul.

I sure hope Arthur Smith has big plans for Freiermuth, and thinks there's a ton of potential there that Canada left on the table. I don't really see it. I see about a league-average tight end. He's not getting paid like one.

I'm a Justin Fields skeptic but it should be obvious, regardless of what side of that debate you're on, that the best-case scenario for the Steelers' QB situation is that he plays Sunday, balls out, and never relinquishes the job.
