Wes Streeting Wes Streeting “This isn’t your weight to be carrying.” As we told you earlier Wes Streeting, you have the power to now extend that attitude to Sussex families and to the calls for a Public Inquiry. You have proven to us that you can do it, they deserve the same.

The ruling is not surprising, but it starkly exposes the cruel reality faced by fathers, mothers and partners who suffer avoidable harm and are left with lasting psychological trauma, yet encounter a system that offers neither accountability nor redress. This is precisely why we

I will try not to swear. Doctors in this country can choose to act against policy & standards, conduct themselves criminally, & negligently kill a father’s child in front of his eyes. This country only considers that father a victim,if it was an ACCIDENT. This country is done.

Because there is zero accountability they just move around repeatedly failing! People for Nottingham are now in maternity improvement roles 🤷🏻‍♀️

So many of these tragic stories involve a woman presenting at triage with red flag symptoms and being sent home. thesun.co.uk/news/38659440/…

NEW 🚨 Donna Ockenden has been appointed to chair Sussex maternity inquiry. It comes after lobbying by bereaved families, who met with the Health Secretray this afternoon, and a joint investigation by the ⁦The New Statesman⁩ and BBC News newstatesman.com/politics/healt…

NEW: After a long and arduous campaign by families, Donna Ockenden has been appointed to chair the maternity review in Sussex. The group, Truth For Our Babies, pushed hard for Ockenden after Wes Streeting initially refused their request. Today he confirmed her appointment.

Bereaved Sussex families have finally got the inquiry they wanted. "This has been a long, exhausting and deeply emotional fight," they said. Having met so many of the group, I hope I can be permitted some reflections, because the statement does not do them justice... (🧵)

Please try to imagine how hard that must be. To find the strength to fight, while trying to come to terms with devastating loss. I struggle to comprehend. In some of these cases, families have been lied to. They have been forced to start legal action, just to gain disclosure.

There is something deeply wrong. That families feel compelled to share their stories with journalists – complete strangers – is appalling. For me, it is truly a privilege to bring their voices to a wider public and to hopefully help, but this shouldn’t be how things improve.

I salute their strength. Because, of course, these are not 'stories'. They are lives. And mothers and fathers should not have to share the intimate details of their worst possible moments with the press just to be heard. END

I’ve learned many important lessons in my roughly 30 yrs of medical practice. Here’s one: Believe the patient. The overwhelming majority are not only telling the truth, they’re the only ones who can speak their truth. And it’s been such a privilege to be part of it.

We’ve seen reviews, frameworks and strategies before. The question isn’t whether we have another voice, it’s whether anything actually changes when harm occurs. 5/ Care Quality Commission NHS England #MaternitySafety

“We can get a maternity commissioner, but that’s not enough. There needs to be transparency, there needs to be accountability, there needs to be continuity. There’s a lot of things, it’s not just get the commissioner and that’ll help us. There’s a lot to take on.”
