I take children seriously. Ask about their feelings, drop down to eye level so I can actually look them in the eyes, listen patiently even when they're rambling, remember details they share so when next I see them & bring it up, their eyes light up because they feel seen & known

You might have assumed a Pulitzer Prize would go to the brave journalists of Gaza. More than 100 of them have been killed by Israel in the past seven months – the fiercest eruption of violence against journalists ever. But you'd be wrong.

Instead it was the New York Times that…

My heart is with Palestinians heavy because I really don’t know what to do? We’ve been shouting, petitioning, condemning, blocking ships, arms, forcing establishments to divest and protesting for months. For the result to still be the same? Like what on Earth is this hell

I've never been so insulted to win an award. In the past for special citations, it's been 'the journalists of Ukraine' or 'Afghanistan journalism workers'—but this isn't 'journalists of Gaza'; this is so vague as to not offend—now includes vast swaths of the industry.

“Over 390 bodies have been discovered at Nasser and Al Shifa hospitals, including of women and children, with many reportedly showing signs of torture and summary executions, and potential instances of people buried alive”

Horrifying UN press release.

I mean, with protesters being chased down by police and our money killing mostly children in Rafah in real time, all while this delightful garden-themed gala takes place, are we not living the Hunger Games?

BREAKING: Israel’s criminal invasion of Rafah, the last place of refuge for Palestinians in Gaza, has begun.

1.7 million civilians trapped in Rafah are now being attacked through air, land and sea, in the middle of the night.

We learn from a young age that the semantic violence we practice with our words dwarfs the decades of systemic and material violence enacted against us by the self-proclaimed Jewish State. A drone is one thing, but a trope—a trope is unacceptable. tinyurl.com/j3wish

There's a beautiful, rather untranslatable Marathi term: 'hakkacha maanus'. A person who will drop everything & come for you, whether you ask them to or not. Someone you have a claim on, who's rightfully yours, whom you call your own, your very own. Do other languages have this?

You can get quite far in a democracy if you can convince a majority that they are victims of a minority, and that only you can protect them.

I am going to vote for Biden because he is better opposition who can be moved on the issues. He hasn’t been moved in 7 months leading to an incredibly important election. But he will be in his second term, when he’s got nothing to lose. That’s called leverage.
