Holiday spirit is in full swing! Mrs. Forte’s HS Art students are busy creating public art to brighten our community.

4th graders explored form, texture, & the work of Judith Scott, an artist with Down syndrome known for her unique sculptures. They asked questions like “What is art?” & “Does it have to be beautiful?” then created their own with paper, magazines, pipe cleaners, tape, & yarn.

Last week, the Buffalo Sabres visited Union East to teach students three hockey skills—passing, stick handling, and shooting! Every student scored a free Sabres t-shirt and a ticket to any game with the purchase of one ticket.

HS Chorale and Jazz Ensemble students spent Thursday afternoon spreading holiday cheer to our town’s senior citizens at the Cheektowaga Senior Center!

The cast of The SpongeBob Musical kicked off their first read-through this week! This hilarious, high-energy show is one you won’t want to miss. Mark your calendars: Feb. 27 & 28 at 7 PM, and March 1 at 2 PM!

Last week, the Performing Arts Club got a special sneak peek of A Christmas Carol during its final dress rehearsal at Alleyway Theatre! Dickens’ classic tale was the perfect reminder of the true spirit of the holiday season.

Ms. Neimanis’ 2nd grade Social Studies class celebrated diversity through holiday interviews! Students paired up to ask questions, share personal items, & learn about each other’s cultures & traditions; including Hanukkah, Eid, Christmas, & Kwanzaa!

Kindness in action! Mr. Chasse’s Global 9 students completed a December Kindness Challenge, performing Random Acts of Kindness for teachers and classmates as part of their studies. Congrats to our KOATs (Kindest of All Time) who went above and beyond spreading holiday cheer!

Recently, our Sr. National Honor Society volunteered at Roswell’s Carly’s Holiday Party at the Buffalo Convention Center! Members helped with crafts, tattoos, and bounce houses to make the night extra special for the kids and their families.

Check out our Union East Ambassadors learning about December’s character trait: Exceptional! Students created acrostic poems and shared examples of exceptional people in their lives on Post-it notes.

The High School Spirit Club proudly participated in its annual Day of Giving this past week, supporting and giving back to the Cheektowaga community!

Union East art students shared holiday traditions and brought them to life through printmaking! Each artwork reflects their individual celebrations, using colors connected to their holidays.

Recently, Challenge Club and Unified hosted their monthly cafeteria activity, “We Are All Included Under This Tree.” Students decorated and signed ornaments as a symbol of inclusion and belonging for all!

The Sr. National Honor Society had another successful Keep Frosty Warm campaign this year, collecting over 80 items—including coats, scarves, hats, and mittens! Thank you to everyone who donated to help keep our community warm.

High School Challenge Club members took a trip last week to Union East School to make a Christmas craft with the preschool students!

Check out Union East students hard at work in Mrs. Rogers’ and Mrs. Yotter’s classes as they build series and parallel circuits! Hands-on learning is powering their understanding of electricity.

Health students in Ms. McClaine’s classes took part in interactive “Under the Influence” learning stations. Using impairment goggles & hands-on activities, students explored the real-life effects & risks of substance use & reflected on making informed, healthy choices.
