Νέα Ιωνία Αττικής, Nea Ionia, is a semi-planned new town built by Greek refugees in 1923. Having neither material nor funds, they built homes and public buildings for themselves in adobe (sun dried mud) brick. Children helped making the bricks, adults built the houses.
