Νέα Ιωνία Αττικής, Nea Ionia, is a semi-planned new town built by Greek refugees in 1923. Having neither material nor funds, they built homes and public buildings for themselves in adobe (sun dried mud) brick. Children helped making the bricks, adults built the houses.

The 2006 Selas House, built using traditional Swahili materials and techniques on Lamu Island, Kenya. Completely handmade, all materials sourced and transported by sailboat and donkey. Lime, wood, coral. Based on a semi-ruined 15-16th c. house. By Urko Sánchez, architect.
