As a first-generation Mexican-American, I am proud to celebrate this month alongside my community. While we honor all that we’ve built, we can’t ignore that fear is being weaponized to attack our community. We can’t let fear dictate how we live, work, or dream.

If Republicans shut down the government, 45,000 Illinoisans could lose their paychecks. Families will feel it at the doctor’s office, grocery store, and in their bills. Republicans don’t care. Democrats are fighting to keep the government open and protect your health care.

Trump’s ICE agents attacked families in Little Village with tear gas and pepper spray, then showed up smiling for photos downtown. It’s vile. There’s nothing to celebrate in terrorizing parents and babies. Every person involved should be ashamed.
